Mice Keep Coming Back To Your House? Here’s What To Do About It

If you have mice and take care of the problem but they keep coming back, this can be frustrating. There are reasons why mice are attracted to your home, and you need to determine what these reasons are. You can then take care of the problem so mice will move on to another home.

Remove What Attracts Them Inside

Mice need water, food, and shelter to survive. If they find all three of these things, they will set up house. Once this happens, babies are born, and the problem multiplies quickly. Walk around your home and look at the food you have sitting out. If you constantly keep food on your counter, remove it and make sure your counters are clear. Store food in tightly sealed storage containers. Look in your cabinets and look for food in boxes, such as pasta, cereal, rice, etc. Store all of this food in tightly sealed storage containers as well.

If you have pets in your home mice love to eat dog or cat food. There are storage containers you can purchase to put this food in also. There are steel and plastic containers that you can purchase at pet stores or online.

Look for dripping faucets because even small drips can provide enough water. Hire a plumber to inspect your plumbing as you may have leaks that you are not aware of. If you have pets, remove water bowls at night before you go to bed, as well as pet food bowls.

Remove What Attracts Them Outside

There are also things that will attract mice outside. If you have a bird feeder, a lot of bird feed falls to the ground when the birds are eating. Mice will eat this birdseed. Pick up this area regularly. If you have stacked up wood outside, mice can hide here. This is common during the summer months. Mice may come in to get the food they want and then go outside to a nest they have built near your home.

Walk around your property to look for any holes where mice can gain entry. They can easily squeeze through even tiny holes in the siding, roof, etc. Hire a contractor to take care of these things or fill the holes with caulking so mice cannot get through.

Hire a pest control company to come to your home.  They will use traps to take care of the mouse problem. If you would like to have a cat this would be a good time to get one. A cat will keep the mice away on a regular basis.
